Overview and Application

The 5th Asian School on Superconductivity and Cryogenics for Accelerators (ASSCA 2023) will be held at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Tsukuba, Japan, from January 28 to February 5, 2024 for 9 days. The organizer is the Accelerator Laboratory, KEK. The 2nd school was held at KEK in 2017, the 3rd was at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), China in 2018. The 4th would be held at the Korea University, Korea in 2019. However, the school had been suspended until February 2023 about 3 years, since COVID-19 came to spread over the world. The 5th school follows the resumed 4th school held at the Korea University.

Asian countries will surely introduce the superconducting devices, such as superconducting RF cavities and superconducting magnets, and cryogenic systems into their accelerators very soon, and hence young generations in Asian countries will contribute to the development of superconducting accelerators in Asian region in very near future. This school is planned to provide such young people the good opportunities not only to learn superconductivity and cryogenic engineering in the classroom but also to experience them practically through the hands-on trainings at KEK. For effective hands-on training, the number of participants will be limited about 42.

This school will be by INVITATION ONLY, and the participants will be selected by the International Advisory Committee members in China, India, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan.

2) Applicants from Japan

 Please contact the school secretary by October 31, 2023.

3) Applicants from other Asian countries

 Please send an email with the recommendation letter from their institute/university/company, which describes the full financial support of the travel expenses, to the school secretary by October 31, 2023.
