Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the international program committee, we are delighted to announce the 13th Workshop on Accelerator Operations, WAO 2023, to take place at Tsukuba, Japan, from 10th to 15th September 2023.

The Workshop is hosted by High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) and National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST).

The website is available at https://wao2023.kek.jp/. The details on the abstract submission and registration will be presented at the beginning of April. Please ask us questions at <wao2023@ml.post.kek.jp>.

The series of WAO international workshops facilitates fruitful discussions and collaborations on particle accelerator operations among specialists from world's leading institutes. The first operations workshop was held in 1996 by JLab at Newport News, US. Since then, the workshop has been organized by accelerator institutes in Europe, America and Asia, discussing both success and failure in a frank and open-minded manner among specialists ranging from operators, engineers, accelerator physicists, to managers. It's a WORKSHOP, not a conference!

The WAO 2023 program will offer an exciting program of invited contributed talks, as well as a poster session and parallel discussions, as well as tours to visit accelerator facilities. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics related to the operations of particle accelerators, such as machine commissioning, beam diagnostics, small accelerators, unforeseen events, machine learning, remote operations, etc.

The venue, Tsukuba International Congress Center (EPOCHAL), is 1 km, 15 min. walk from Tsukuba station, that is 50 km, 1 hour from Narita airport, 80 km, 90 min. from Haneda airport, by bus or train services. Hotels are available nearby Tsukuba station and the next station. Dormitories are available as well at KEK that is 30 min. away by bus.

If you are interested in student grants, those will be available depending on the budget and will be selected based on the abstracts and recommendation letters.

Please join this workshop in September at Tsukuba, Japan, and share your experiences on accelerator operations.

Sincerely,

Kazuro Furukawa, KEK, Chair
Yoshiyuki Iwata, QST, Deputy Chair
