KEK Theory Workshop is an annual workshop on string theory and quantum field theory. Since KEK Theory Workshop 2014, it has been held as an international workshop. Speakers are invited from abroad as well as from Japan, and all talks are given in English.

We hope the workshop provides a valuable opportunity to have active discussions and inspiration on various fundamental problems in theoretical physics related to superstrings, supersymmetric gauge theories, black hole physics, quantum field theories, condensed matter physics and so on.

This year, in the light of COVID-19, we have decided to hold the workshop ONLINE from Dec.15 (Tue.) to Dec.18 (Fri.). We will have morning sessions from 9:00 and afternoon sessions from 14:00 (14:30 only on Dec.15), for the convenience of the participants from abroad. Each day, we will put a special emphasis on a topic which attracts great interest these days:

Dec.15 (Tue.): Topological phases of matter

Dec.16 (Wed.): QCD phase diagram at finite density

Dec.17 (Thu.): Machine learning applications to string theory

Dec.18 (Fri.): Quantum aspects on black holes

We will have one or two introductory talks on each focused topic, followed by a few more specific ones.
In the afternoon, we will have short talks with (15+5) minutes. Participants can apply for the talk at the registration. The topics to be discussed in the short talks can be chosen from field theory and string theory, and they are not restricted to the above four topics. If there are too many applicants, we will have to make some selection. Some of the talks may be given in parallel sessions. This year, there will be no poster session.

NOTE: We will use the virtual meeting rooms on Zoom. The necessary information (links, IDs and passwords) will be sent to the participants by E-mail before the workshop starts.

The list of invited speakers is:

Topological phases : Yoshimasa Hidaka* (KEK), Ken Shiozaki (YITP), Apoorv Tiwari (U. of Zurich),                                                    Ryo Yokokura (KEK)

Finite density QCD   : Akira Ohnishi* (YITP), Kouji Kashiwa (Fukuoka Inst. of Tech.), Jun Nishimura (KEK)

Machine learning     : Yang-Hui He* (Merton Coll., U. of Oxford), Gary Shiu* (U. of Wisconsin-Madison),
                                      Hajime Otsuka (KEK)

Black holes               : Pei-Ming Ho* (NTU), Masaki Shigemori (Nagoya U. & YITP), Tomonori Ugajin (YITP),
                                      Yuki Yokokura (RIKEN)

(* : speakers who give introductory talks.
As for the machine learning session, the two speakers will give overview talks in two different directions.)

Registration deadline

Those who wish to apply for a short talk: Nov.15 (Sun.)
Other participants: Dec.8 (Tue.)

The registration will be closed when the number of the applicants exceeds 300, which is the capacity of our Zoom meeting room.

We are looking forward to your participation.
