By Airport bus

Airport bus is a very reasonable choice to come to Mito/Katsuta directly from both airports w/o transfer. The fare is 3,100 yen from Narita, and 3,600 yen from Haneda. Get off the bus at "Mito station south exit" or "Katsuta station west".

By Train

There are no direct connections from Haneda/Narita airport to Mito area. At least one transfer in Tokyo area is necessary to get on JR (Japan Railway) Joban line. Here are some recommended paths with one transfer at one of JR Yamanote-line stations (Yamanote is a loop line connecting main stations in Tokyo, and is operated in every 3-4 minutes). The total fare is about 6,300 JPY (Skyliner) / 5,500 JPY (N'EX) from Narita to Mito, and 4,200 JPY from Haneda to Mito, respectively.

From Narita, transfer at Ueno (Skyliner)

Keisei Skyliner provides non-stop service to JR Nippori station. After Nippori, it stops at Keisei-Ueno station as its final destination. It takes 5 minutes walk to transfer to JR Ueno station.

From Narita, transfer at Tokyo (N'EX)

JR Narita Express (N'EX) is operated in every 30-60 minutes to Tokyo station.

From Haneda, transfer at Shinagawa

Keikyu aiport line  is convenient to go to Shinagawa station.

JR Joban line express HITACHI / TOKIWA

HITACHI / TOKIWA express trains run on the Joban Line, connecting Shinagwa to Mito area.  Note express trains do not stop at Nippori station, and some of them start from Ueno, not from Shinagawa.
