Description
Open quantum systems are quantum systems that interact with their surrounding environments. Their nonunitary dynamics alter fundamental concepts in many-body physics, such as symmetry and spontaneous symmetry breaking. In this talk, I will first review some basic concepts of open quantum systems, including quantum channels, quantum master equations, and their symmetries. I will then discuss several recent developments in this field, ranging from exotic renormalization-group flows and strong-to-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking to topological feedback control.
